Yay!

Matt's been gone on a business trip since Sunday. It's not like he's been gone a super long time... but it's been long enough. :-) He's coming home tonight as long as he gets a seat on his flight. Yay! I'm excited.

The Fringe

The last week or so, I've taken to watching Fringe. It's a new series written by J.J. Abrams, who also wrote Alias and Lost, both of which I love. (who doesn't love Sawyer??) Anyway, so far the Fringe is kind of like X-Files, which I don't mind at all. One difference is that it appears that each of the cases is part of something they call "The Pattern", which I assume... is a pattern. I'm a genius, I know. I'm intrigued, and I'll probably keep watching for a while. If you're interested and you've missed the first couple of episodes, you can watch them online here. Hopefully this will actually answer some more questions and give a little more resolution through the show then Lost does though. Lost just has me confused, but I need to know how it ends!

On another note... I worked out tonight. Yay me!

Adventures In Babysitting

We've got this really great babysitter who watches Spencer from the time that he gets out of school to when I am able to leave work. She and her husband are in their early/mid-twenties and have two kids. I think they are 2 and 3 years old. Spencer's been going to her for the last year and has really enjoyed it. She's great about getting him to do his homework and letting me know if there are any problems. She's also helped hold boundaries with him. We just love her.

This school year has been pretty rough so far. She's been stressed out with her husband's new school schedule and hasn't really been available as much as I need. Turns out, she's pregnant and not feeling well at all. She's got some strange cold-flu-thing that she had with her last pregnancy and isn't sure when she'll be feeling better. She let me know all of this tonight, and then she quit. Uuuuuggggghhhhhh. She was really, really nice about it. And I get it. I really do. I wouldn't want to watch someone else's kid if I was sick 24-7... hell, I probably wouldn't even want to watch my own kid if I was sick 24-7.

But still... now what? It took me a while to find someone we were happy with in the first place.

What I wouldn't give to be able to be home with my son.

Soccer Season

For the last 3 or 4 years Spencer's been playing soccer with the city program. It's been a good experience for him and each year he gets a little better. Last year he did well, but didn't really seem into it. He was the kid who was spinning in circles on the field or picking dandelions when he should have been trying to stealing the ball from the other team. I wasn't going to put him back in soccer this year but he asked me to sign him up again on the condition that he had to really play this year instead of just mess around.

This year has been a lot better; he's been working hard and playing different positions. So far, his favorite position to play has been either goalie or defense. (I'm guessing because he doesn't have to run around as much as offense does.)

Here are a couple of pics from the first few games:

2nd Grade

Spencer started 2nd grade this year. We're very excited about his teacher, which will be a change from last year. She's in my mom's ward and comes with very high praises from Spencer's babysitter, who is also in the same ward. She seems to enjoy teaching and Spencer likes her so far.

Here are some pictures of Spencer on the first day of school, (which was nearly a month ago):

Child for Rent

If anyone wants to rent, (at no cost), a child for the day, I happen to know of a child who would much rather spend his Friday off of school with other kids then at work with his mother. ;-)
